End of Tenancy Cleaning

It’s moving day, the time when all your worldly possessions are packed tightly into a few boxes. You can’t wait to get out of this house…or flat or apartment. Yes, it was fun at first but you’ve had enough. It’s now time to leave and never return…Well maybe not never…

Firstly, you need to end your tenancy. You need to give notice, usually in writing if it’s an assured shorthold tenancy with a fixed end date. If you don’t end the agreement correctly then you could end up paying more rent or end up out on the street!

Then comes the end of tenancy cleaning. Landlords expect their properties back in the best condition possible. So end of tenancy cleaning is necessary even if you don’t plan on returning because not finishing it will see your deposit end up in the landlord’s pocket, which makes absolutely no sense! Landlords are entitled to charge for it and they usually get a professional company to give it a go.

1. End of tenancy cleaning checklist – Your end of tenancy checklist will consist of everything you need to clean before the end of your tenancy agreement begins. This end of tenancy check list will make sure you don’t miss anything! 

Firstly, you need to sweep away all dust and dirt, especially in areas that accumulate dust like the kitchen and bathroom. You need to wipe all surfaces including cupboard doors, inside ovens and microwaves and clean the sink and taps if you can. If you can’t unscrew taps then just put a little bit of water in the sink so it doesn’t look dirty.

2. Next, end of tenancy cleaning appliances: Clean fridge, freezer and microwave. Remove all dishes from dishwasher and clean inside the machine. Make sure the oven is turned off and unplugged at socket, if you can’t remove the plug then just turn on grill function for fifteen minutes so it looks like you’ve at least tried!Clean out your washing machine and dryer and make sure the doors of your washing machine and dryer are closed.

3. Finally end end of tenancy cleaning: Dust all surfaces and vacuum and mop floor and then dust again! Now you’re done end of tenancy cleaning! Clear end of tenancy check list is now complete.
